First off let me say this is a really cool way to express ourselves and our love for our tractors. We seldom get the chance to tell our stories to others around the world and I think this is a wondeful way to do so!Soooooooo here goes......
Of course most of us were raised on some sort of farm.Me,I was raised on a cash crop farm, mostly soybeans, wheat, and oats.We could only afford to buy older equipment, and all the headaches that came with them! Our old tracotrs were for the most part junk, our combine was a factory reject to begin with, and our old truck we used to haul our crops with had most definately seen its better days.Out tractors,M and H Farmalls were so worn out,we had to work on them daily ot keep them running.Sometimes we overlooked safety with them but we did what had to be done. Our combine,an IH 141 always had trouble, whether it was a belt or a clutch or anything in between. Our truck,a 55 Chevy was something out of a junkyard, literally!Dad found it and bought it and a worn out 350 to put in it.Accually it was the best peice we had!The heater even worked!
Well in the late 70s Dad got out of farming,we still dabbled around some with my uncle but for the most part we were done!I remember in 85,Dad decided he wanted to get into hay farmin,so we pulled out the old M and rebiult it,only thing it didnt get was a paint job, sold the old 141 and bought a conditioner on credit, and refurbished an old hay rake!Even the old Chevy truck got some work!We palnted the feild in cericial and a year later we were cutting hay like crazy!
Now some 15 yrs later, the feild is still there, still putting otu good.Dad is gone to a better place, but the old M is still here, sporting a new paint job.The rest of the stuff is gone, but still working to this day.Me,well about all I do is sit in front of this computer and remember the good ole' days!
