I once saw a pair of adaptors that convert 2pt to 3pt. They had a hinge point that would let you leave the adaptors in the 2pt arms and hook to the equipment. Does anyone know where to find these? Getting harder and harder to find quality 2pt equipment these days.

Most of the IH part sites, including Steel Wheel Ranch, have the parts you need to convert the fast hitch to a 3 point. Most are pieces that convet each arm of the hitch to a socket ball and then you have to add something for the 3rd point. You didn't say which tractor you are converting, but the guys at Steel Wheel Ranch can tell you what you need.

Sorry about that. It is a 1956 Farmall 400. I have checked with Mike @ Steel Wheel Ranch. They have both 1 & 2 catogory inserts, but the pieces that I am looking for are different than those. Looks like the same thing as the cat 2 and 3 inserts, but right at the end of the vertical flat arm where the ball socket would weld on, there is two flat iorns butted together with some kind of a hinge. Once close to the equipment to be hooked onto, (if I remember right) you pull the inner pin and the ball socket swings outwards. This letting you back right on into the equip and swing them back in and re-pin. Sounds odd, but I rememeber seeing these somewhere. I don't think it was IH parts.

I made my own adapters for my 560's. I already had a couple of 2 points and bought a couple of "weld on" ball assemblies at the local farm supply store. They look just like the ones advertised at Steel Wheels site.... Only these are cat II size. I bought a top link at the supply store and made an anchor point adapter that bolted between the "rock shaft" arms for the third point. We have used this sorta setup for about 30 years for various purposes.

Hi Smoothman, I'm the same one that first replied to your post. Ive never seen the adapter that you describe, but it sounds like a good concept. There are several places to try. Red Power Magazine has several suppliers and part yards that advertize. You could try calling them. If you aren't getting Red Power, you can visit their web site. They also have a forum. You may want to post on their forum or the Antique Tractor Internet Service site(ATIS). These sites have a loyal following of old tractor people and some interesting subjects. It's a shame that this site doesn't see more action. My Dad bought a 400 when I was in high school. It didn't have a fast hitch. A lot of good memories. I'm currently working on a '57 450. Got a long ways to go before she will be ready to do anything with. It's always good to hear what other people are up to. Good luck finding your parts.
